Ash Wednesday is the start of the season of Lent, the 40 days of repentance before Easter. We receive ashes in the shape of a cross as a reminder that "from dust we have come, and to dust we will return," but also to point us to the hope, forgiveness, and mercy that is only found in Jesus.
